What participants said...
jessica lai - volunteerI worked in the section for the South Asian kids.
I can't believe my eyes when I see that the little kids are learning Cantonese easily. I was convinced by the program that all kids have their talents. Hong Kong kids are not cleverer than those from South Asia. We should stop discriminating since we are all equal. |
Tony Leung - teacherI am teaching the course for the South Asian kids now.
You can't believe how smart those little kids are ! Since English is already their second language, Cantonese is the third language they can speak after the courses ! I doubted their ability before I participated in this language program, but now I have changed my mind. There is no doubt that those kids are as intelligent as us, we are more or less the same. |
tina Yau - parent of a studentMy daughter once looked down upon those kids from south Asia.
I don't know how to stop it. However, after the course, she began to teach us to be friendly with people from south Asia. It is amazing that such a short time can change one's attitude. MEMO really did a good job ! |
Samir Bindra - classmate of a studentHong Kong students do not like children like me.
Ariana, a local student, together with other local students used to look down upon my friends and me. However, she began to talk to us using our language after she joined the language program held by MEMO. And she even began to talk to her friends and stop them from looking down upon us. I now become friends with Ariana, my first Hong Kong friend ! MEMO really helped a lot ! |
henry wong - studentI do believe that the South Asian language is mysterious and interesting, after learning a little bit of it, I found it's fascinating but difficult.
I began to admire those children from South Asia. At least they can master a language I found difficult ! I determined to learn more about their culture and language. |
